Piston rods are classified as solid piston rods and hollow piston rods. Solid piston rods are made from hard chromed plated steel bars with welding and CNC turning, while hollow piston rods are made from seamless pipes/tubes. The most important procedure for piston rods is hard chrome plating, because it is the chromed layer that ensures the property of wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Some rods used in high pressure cylinders are induction hardened or quenched&tempered to improve hardness and strength.
